The Society has as its home, the historic Gisborne Court House c.1858, is open to the public on Wednesdays from 10am to 4.00pm, opens the sound & light exhibit in the jail daily from 10am to 2.00pm and conducts several events throughout the year.
The team of volunteers provide, for a fee, a research facility for those interested in their local or family backgrounds, having more than 11,000 photographs in the collection, together with many parish maps and documents of relevance to the local region, collected over the past 50 years. Members provide the history page and the 100 years ago column in the monthly GREAT Gisborne Gazette, as well as producing a newsletter several times a year. Members have produced several local history books and booklets over the years that are available for purchase from the Court House or at other commercial outlets in the district.
The Society would love to welcome new volunteers to assist with this interesting service that we take pleasure in sharing.

Most classes are at our Neighbourhood House in Gisborne, but at times are presented in Macedon and other neighbouring Neighbourhood Centres. MRFEC is a not-for-profit organisation with a focus on offering training and courses to further adult learners’ education and engage our local community in a variety of recreational courses and workshops. MRFEC also presents social engagement activities that seek to bring members of our community together, to learn, talk and share ideas and skills. Courses are listed on the website.
